    Description

    All-in-one patch: http://kaikostack.no-ip.com/ftp/temp/blender_kai/patch.zip

    Main features:

    - Adaptive Subdivision Modifier (for concept and docs see http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=119216)

    - Softbody based Demolition Modifier (no specific docs available at the moment but conceptual it's similar to http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=101635). Of course, not all features from original Demolition Script are supported.

    - Photon mapping with Caustics and Final Gather by Farsthary (http://farsthary.wordpress.com/)

    - Approximate AO: Diffuse Bounce Hack + Multiple Bounces

    Smaller changes:

    - shadow buffer size below 512 is possible. lower limit here is 16

    - more flexible OSA settings, 1-16 samples possible

    - 256 threads possible

Patches adopted from the patch tracker:

Image Based Lighting: Diffuse prefiltered (HDRI):
    https://projects.blender.org/tracker..._id=9&atid=127

    Shaded ambient occlusion:
    https://projects.blender.org/tracker..._id=9&atid=127

Ocean Procedural Texture a.k.a Ocean Sim:
    https://projects.blender.org/tracker..._id=9&atid=127

If you have troubles running Blender on Windows, receiving an error message like"The Application failed to initialize properly ( 0xc0150002 )" while trying to starting Blender, then download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86).

I like the sound of the Adaptive Subdivision Modifier-
    very good!

were you been ?I waited for a long for your build.I'm glad you are posting your again.

    Cheer!
    Fab
Yes thank you for posting that build, you make an amazing work !

Thanks for this Build...i think Ocean Procedural Texture a.k.a Ocean Sim is Missing (Patch not Integrated)!
    blackcoatman
    i'll agree with Billy...

thx for the build , adaptive subdiv is great.
i cant find ocean texture too?

patch was integrated but there was a bug in the UI. it's fixed now.

    Thanks...!

    try the non-optimized build.

IBL in an up to date optimized build. I've been waiting for this for so long. Words cannot express my appreciation. Thankyou

    Kai Kostack
yea, the modifier can't work on multi-user data because the mesh changes are depending on the camera and object locations. please use shift+d for full duplication. i should fix that infinity loop and output some warning though.
    RNS
duplicate object in AdaptiveSubdiv is fine on my build.but the only thing that don't work is the edit script .

when shooting photons, you cannot hit ESC to cancel the render. This is useful when settings aren't correct. Other builds allow an ESC cancellation. Thanks.

btw, I love the "object color" GI where you can use meshlights. This is quite awesome.
    Gadget2006
Awesome build, thanks a lot! I have a problem with the GI mode though - if I turn on the GI mode and hit "render", the program remains in "Shooting diffuse photons: 0%" mode forever and I have to Ctrl+Shift+Esc and terminate the process. Is there something I'm missing?...

thanks a lot for this build, I use linux %99.9 of the time, but I just finished a job that needed the ocean simulator and I used your build. I owe you one, thanks a lot, this is really a super build!
    fzalfa
same as you gadget2006..... GI stay at 0%

Bumped all the GI settings to 2, set the diffuse and caustic parameters to 0.2. FG off.
    Gathering photons stuck at 0%...

    shadowphile,
if you go to Farsthary's site,
    you can find FinalGatheringMultiligth.rar
inside is a test file FinalGathering.blend.
This works as far as it has been developed.
You can use the settings to find out how to get results.
    shadowphile
thanks meta-androcto, I had no problem running the FG blend file inside this Kai build.
However, no luck with my own scene. In particular, my plane had a very high vertex count and complex displacement texture + I'm using an EXR angmap background. In this case, it seems to spend forever 'creating environment map'. So it either doesn't like background photons, EXR files, angmaps, or non-enclosed spaces, something like that. I will continue to watch it mature though with interest.

Regardless of the other tools, I am mondo happy just to have the ASD! I'm working on mega-detailed landscapes and every time it renders I say "Hallelujah Kai!"
I have an issue though, not a bad one, but puzzling.
When my camera gets withing a certain close distance (I think) from my object, mesh displacement disappears both from the viewport and from the render. The problem exists only if I have Safe Frame Optimization ON, which I would really like because otherwise the memory calls are killing me.
    shadowphile
OK, fixed the problem, although it still exists as potential problem. My cam was very close to large cylinder with long slender quads for its sides. I noticed bad crumpling on the edges of the zone from the ASD, so I loop cut all those quads down to bite-size squares and voila!, my original problem went away.
So, when pushed, ASD doesn't like long slender quads close to the camera.
    shadowphile
sorry to keep posting, but I keep running into new valuable information!
I've also been running into memory limit problems with earlier better behaved ASD sections, and this seems to have fixed that problem as well. The lesson it seems is, for anybody running into ASD memory limits, to cut any long quads (and triangles?) into more, er, stubby shapes. (I'm sure there's a geometry term for that: the opposite of oblate?)

been experimenting with different builds of blender photon/GI . Works with lamp area light and sun. Needs a light ie not just AO . needs to have values set for all the parameters in the photon panel, so if you think you don't need caustics you still need to set a value. Crashes when trying to bake and crashes when switching to shaded mode with GI turned on. Also it only reflects the surface base colour so textures vertex colours or nodes are not reflected

hey.. can you pls build for linux 64bit? I am using ubuntu intreped 64 bit.

Kai Kostack, you are my sweet angel of hope.
your build are awesome!!! do another collect build please!

Sweet Angel. I tell everyone, get a Kai build if you are gonna use blender!

How you install the Ocean Procedural Texture a.k.a Ocean Sim ?

    How install the patch?

It's in sync with the latest revision of the 2.4x branch.
    mib2berlin
I'll try to build a linux version of your patched 2.4x.
Patching works well, but compiling not. It stops on:
    http://www.pasteall.org/9022/text

Revision 24430, cmake/make and scons, error is different but at the same point.
    Mabe you can help, mib

    Kai Kostack
hi mib2berlin, does it compile without patching?

i tried to compile myself on fedora but it stops in a different place with the same error messages. i have no idea what the problem is with BLI_blenlib.h on linux.

my patch doesn't change that file either.
    rharris
i can not seem to get this file to fully download. each time i try i get 80 or so kilobytes and it says the download is complete. i have tried various downloaders and none will capture all of the file. any ideas?

    @rharris:
    try from this server:
    http://video.blendertestbuilds.de/kaikostack/091107.zip
should be around 350 kb in size.
    mib2berlin
Thanks, yes it compiles before i patch.
I leave it for now, mabe somebody is to be savvy more than me give it a try in linux.
